Radiator Replacement London
Leaking, cold, or undersized radiator? We replace all radiator types across London — single, double, column, designer, and heated towel rails. Supply and fit or fit only. TRVs included. Fixed price.
All Radiator Types Supplied & Fitted
From a standard panel swap to a Victorian column radiator installation — we handle the full range. Each type has different output characteristics that affect correct sizing.
Single Panel (K1 / P)
Output: Low–Medium · Best for: Small rooms, hallways, studies
Slim profile — good where space is tight. Lower heat output than doubles.
£180–£300 supply & fit
Double Panel Convector (K2 / P+)
Output: High · Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, open plan areas
Most common replacement in London homes. Best BTU-per-pound value. Standard 600mm height.
£250–£450 supply & fit
Double Panel Double Convector (K3)
Output: Very High · Best for: Large rooms, poorly insulated Victorian terraces
Maximum output for a given width. Deeper than K2 — check valve clearance.
£300–£500 supply & fit
Column Radiator
Output: Medium–High · Best for: Period London properties, hallways, living rooms
Traditional vertical column style. Available in steel or cast iron replica. High mass = slow to heat, slow to cool.
£400–£900 supply & fit
Heated Towel Rail
Output: Low · Best for: Bathrooms, en-suites
Plumbed into the central heating. Chrome or anthracite. Usually supplementary to main bathroom heating.
£280–£550 supply & fit
Designer / Flat Panel
Output: Medium · Best for: Modern London interiors, refurbs
Horizontal or vertical flat-panel steel. Often powder-coated in RAL colours. Requires correct sizing as output varies significantly by model.
£350–£800 supply & fit
Repair or Replace? Decision Guide
| Symptom | What it means | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Pinhole leak in radiator body | The steel wall has corroded through. A leak repair is temporary — the surrounding steel is similarly corroded and will fail again. Replace. | Replace |
| Cold spots that don't respond to bleeding | Magnetite sludge has settled in the radiator base. Power flushing can help, but severely sludged radiators often don't recover full output. | Consider replace + power flush |
| Radiator under-heats the room even when hot | The radiator is undersized for the room. Upgrade to a larger panel or add a second radiator. | Upsize or add |
| External corrosion / paint flaking badly | Surface rust can be addressed with preparation and re-painting. If the steel feels thin or pitted, replacement is safer. | Replace if pitted |
| Old gate valves won't operate | Gate valves are unreliable and should be replaced with TRVs and lockshield valves at the same time as the radiator. | Replace valves + radiator |
| No TRVs fitted | Building Regs now require TRVs on all new/replacement radiators. Combining TRV installation with radiator replacement is most cost-effective. | Fit TRVs when replacing |

Radiator Replacement FAQs
How much does radiator replacement cost in London?
Like-for-like fit only (existing pipework and valves) costs £150–£220. Supply and fit of a standard double panel radiator is £250–£450. Adding a new radiator with new pipework runs £280–£450 labour only. A designer column or bathroom towel rail costs £280–£900 supply and fit. Fixed quote before we start.
How long does radiator replacement take?
A like-for-like swap on existing valves takes 1–2 hours. With new valves, 2–3 hours. Adding a new radiator with new pipework takes 3–5 hours depending on the pipe run. We drain the section, fit, refill, bleed, and test before leaving.
When should I replace rather than repair a radiator?
Replace when: the body has a pinhole leak (surrounding steel is similarly corroded), cold spots don't respond to bleeding or power flushing, the radiator is undersized for the room, or external corrosion has pitted the steel. Combining replacement with TRV installation is the most cost-effective approach.
What size radiator do I need?
Sizing is based on room heat loss — volume, external walls, glazing, and insulation. A standard London Victorian living room (4×5m, sash windows) typically needs 3,000–4,500 BTU. A double panel convector (K2) at 600mm height in the correct length delivers this. We size during the survey.
Can I replace a radiator myself?
A like-for-like swap on existing valves is DIY-capable — drain, swap, refill, bleed. But if valves are seized (common in older London properties) or pipework needs extending, professional fitting prevents air locks and system damage. Building Regs require TRVs on all new/replacement radiators.
Should I add TRVs when replacing radiators?
Yes — fitting TRVs when replacing is the logical time to do it. Building Regulations now require TRVs on all new and replacement radiator installations (except the thermostat room). We include TRV fitting in every radiator replacement unless TRVs are already installed.
