How to Choose the Right Tap for Your London Bathroom
The biggest mistake is buying a tap that doesn't match the number of holes in your basin or bath. Here's a quick decision guide:
| Your basin/bath has… | Compatible tap types | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hole (central) | Monobloc mixer only | Monobloc mixer — easiest to use, modern look |
| 2 holes (left & right) | Pillar taps or 3-hole mixer with blanking plug | Pillar taps if period style; 3-hole mixer if contemporary |
| 3 holes | 3-hole mixer or pillar taps with centre blanked | 3-hole bath mixer for a premium feel |
| No holes (wall-mounted) | Wall-hung mixer or thermostatic bar | Thermostatic bar for precise temperature control |
Not sure? Send us a photo of your basin and existing tap before booking and we'll advise you on the right purchase.

Bathroom Tap Replacement FAQs
How much does bathroom tap replacement cost in London?
Labour for bathroom tap replacement in London is typically £95–£135 (fitting only). If you supply the taps we fit them; if we supply, add the tap cost (£20–£200+ depending on brand). Basin tap pairs from £95, bath taps from £110, monobloc mixers from £115, bath/shower mixers from £135. Fixed quote before we start.
Can you replace taps if I supply them myself?
Yes — just supply your taps and we fit them. Bring the full box including any flexible tap connectors. Labour is £95–£135 depending on the tap type. Check the connection size matches your existing pipework (typically 15mm) or let us know the brand so we can advise on fittings.
How long does tap replacement take?
A standard basin or bath tap replacement takes 45–90 minutes. Monobloc mixer taps with flexible connectors usually take 45–60 minutes. Complications — corroded isolators, non-standard pipe runs, or needing to drain the system — can add 30–60 minutes.
What's the difference between a mixer tap and separate taps?
Separate (pillar) taps have individual hot and cold handles and need two tap holes in the basin. Mixer taps blend hot and cold through one spout and usually need one central hole (monobloc) or three holes (3-hole mixer). If your basin only has one hole, you need a monobloc. We can advise on compatibility on arrival.
My tap is dripping — should I repair or replace it?
A dripping tap wastes up to 5,500 litres of water per year. If the tap is ceramic-disc, we can often replace just the cartridge (£45–£75 inc. parts). If it's an old rubber-washer tap and the body is corroded or seized, replacement is usually more cost-effective. We'll advise on arrival.
Do you need to turn off the water to replace bathroom taps?
Yes. We isolate water supply via under-sink isolating valves (most modern bathrooms have them) or via the main stopcock. If your isolating valves are seized or missing, we may need to shut off supply to the whole property briefly. This adds no extra cost.
